SLS: Breakdown

Like every technology we invest in, the ultimate goal is for it to be able to assist us in effectively producing superior end-use parts. The Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) machine does just that, and a whole lot more. It’s been trusted and used by engineers across a whole variety of industries because of its advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The SLS uses a high-powered laser to sinter tiny particles of polymer powder into the shape of a solid part, based on a 3D design — layer by layer. It’s favoured because of the low cost per part and its high productivity, which is suitable for a range of applications from rapid prototyping to small-batch, bridge or custom manufacturing. Once the parts are printed, they’re left to cool before transitioning to the post-processing stage of the additive manufacturing journey.
